The name Tulum comes from the Yucatec word for "wall".الاسم تولوم Yucatec تأتي من كلمة "الجدار". It is likely that the city’s original name was something like Zama or "place of the dawn".ومن المرجح ان اسم المدينة الاصلي هو شيء مثل زاما او "بدلا من الفجر". Tulum is surrounded by three walls and with the ocean forming the fourth boundary the city was designed to be defensive.تولوم تحيط به ثلاثة جدران والمحيط تشكيل الرابع الحد المدينة هو ان دفاعية.
